I am looking at the Magellan RoadMate GPS 1430 on The Home Shopping Network 4.3 inch screen with 6 million points of intrest for $229.00. I found it on line at the Magellan Website for $399.00, but wondered if Magellan makes good systems. I'm heard that "Garrnin" is te best.... your thoughts, if you own either device.....

  1. I think that Garmin is the best and it is very hot at amazon

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i...

  2. Magellan has been a marine gps company for a long time people say garmin is the best but that's opinionated i sell gps's at my job and i have sued all of them from mio to gramin from tom tom to magellan

with that being said magellan has the fast route caculation times then any other gps on the market but they also have their cons garmin on the other hand is the slowest imho on obtaining a gps signal half the time i cant even get one in my store where i can on most others

in my own opinion i would go with a tom tom I have lined 6 gps devices across the dash of my jeep liberty and the tom tom go 720 beat the magellan 4250 the garmin nuvi 260w the mio moov 300 the navman f15 the navigon 2100 maxx magellan did calculate the route the fastest but it was lacking in some specific directions garmin took for ever to grab the gps mio was fast and the navman i ignored do to its retarded functions the navman was just ok the tom tom routed very quick held the gps and i can correct the map right on the device if need be tom tom was the winner hands down for me and i was partial to the magallan

  3. TomTom is the world leader in GPS technogy and for a reason, they are the best.

There are only two map providers Teleatlas and navteq , teleatlas is owned by TomTom in just recently had been tested up against navteq by a independant study at GPS review and found teleatlas better, now for the plus , the only maker with free map updates and mapshare technology which allows you to make map corrections and share them when you hook up to a computer, and of coarse download them, some of the units come with ,IQ Routes™ technology

    - Advanced Lane Guidance

    - Easy access to traffic information

    - Enhanced Positioning Technology

    -Voice address input

    - Hands-free calling

    - No monthly fees

    - Built-in FM transmitter- how this works is say you want to listen to your MP3's that you have downloaded on your TomTom you can broadcast them on any vacant radio station in you car and when it gives you the next instruction it will mute the music and then continue after the instruction anyway hope that helps ........Ren
