What's the best motorcycle for a learner in NSW, Australia?

I'm about to start taking lessons to ride a motorbike and I'm restricted with what I can buy for a first bike.

NSW State will only let me choose from the following bikes they have approved: http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/tests/motorcycleridertrainingscheme/motorcyclesnoviceriders.html

What would be the best bike from that selection, that still looks half decent and a bit sporty.

Thanks!

  1. My opinion...

Go for Aprilia RS 125. It got the looks, but pricey

The CBR 125 is too skinny and so small,

The kwak 250 just doesn't go for me..

  2. Look at the  Hyosung 250 GV, I have lots of friends on

www.prideinwhatyouride.com in your part of the world and

they ride these and love them.

  3. I would choose the Honda Shadow.  They are cruiser-style bikes that have a low seat height, low center of gravity, and they're easy to ride.  Granted, the Honda Rebel is widely used for rider safety courses here in the States, but the engine size is too small for anything more than passing your local moped/scooter rider.  I've driven in Sydney before, and you'll need power when you're trying to merge into those roundabouts.

When visiting the dealership, ask about older models first.  If they've got one from a previous model year that they haven't sold yet, that one will get you the best bike for your money.  I'd recommend getting a used bike as your first one, so you can be sure that you really want to do this without losing a big chunk of your investment.

Keep your knees in the wind!
