Question:

What's the best oral contraceptive (birth control)?

I'm thinking about changing my birth control because I'm having horrible cramps still... I'm scared to death of needles (so not shots) and I'm not too sure yet about a patch. I've read about Yaz, but haven't talked to anyone that has taken it.

  1. The best oral contraceptive really comes down to what works best for you.  Some people have side effects that they don't like on a medication that works great for other people.  If you're having bad cramps, then you probably do want to change your meds.  I'd take a look at what's in your current medication and then try to find one that has a different hormonal balance.  There are a lot of options, so you shouldn't have to put up with cramps caused by medication.

If your cramps are caused in part by being on a relatively high dose of hormones, then something like Yaz (or other low-dose OC) or NuvaRing or the patch might help; NuvaRing and the patch are both lower doses and continually administered, which I've found helpful because I don't get hormonal swings throughout the day.  Not everyone likes them or finds them comfortable, though.

  2. whatever works best for you and your body. i was on ortho tri-cyclen and it didn't work that good for me.  i got pregnant while i was on it.

  3. i would not use the patch considering there are law suites out there for compilations with using the patch. i'm not sure which one but i'd stay away for safety reasons. you should try the Nova ring. it goes inside of you for one month just put it in and forget it for 3 weeks!! i have used it in the past and it works great. no you don't feel it nor does the boy friend. it's not uncomfortable either. you should ask your Dr about it!

  4. Try the nuva ring.

You can get it with a prescription just like any birth control, but its a ring that kind of looks like a condom that you insert into your v****a and it goes over the cervix i belive. And you leave it in for a month at a time. It's like a diaphram basically, only it releases hormones and makes your ovaries stop realising eggs, it doesnt just block the sperm from entering.

I personally have never tried it, but a few of my friends have and they all like it just fine.

    Hope I helped.

And if nothing else, just ask your doctor about the nuva ring and see what he says.
