I'm in Qatar and I'll be going on vacation to the Philippines - my first time since I left, a year and a half ago. I'm on a budget but as is customary in our 'culture', I have to bring something for everyone - friends, family, extended family. Any ideas on what pasalubong I should bring home?

  1. Cheap costume jewelry, belt buckles, them thingies that women love to hang from their cell fones, etc.

First go to a gift shop to see what all they sell, then go to the local palengke and buy the closest things to what you saw in the gift shop. ☺

  2. Get a bag of chocolates from Duty Free. You wouldn't even need to worry if it'll fit in your suitcase.

  3. Premium chocolate-covered dates.

Or those special chocolates you find in the chocolate section of Carrefour.

  4. Even chocolates are no good to be as "pasalubong" coz just eat and gone still the pinoy's don't think like that, in Philippines chocolates are so expensive so they're happy to taste a chocolate from abroad. Keychain and shirts with prints of the place or country in Qatar.. also cheap jewelries i heard jewelries in middle east are cheap. Is it true?

  5. keychains from the dollar store.

  6. How about necklaces/native jewelry for the women, keychains/lighter for the men and candies or any native delicacy for the children.

  7. You need to be practical.  All you have to do is simply go to DUTY FREE and buy chocolates. But of course, you can buy perfume and jewelries and bottles of wine inside the plane before it touches down.

    GOD BLESS YOUR TRIP:)

  8. just get the cheapest item.. no need to give your extended family really. Just bring yourself safely. I think that's a 'pasalubong' enough.

  9. chocolates are really good. and well appreciated.

small thingies like socks, coin purse, keychains, small bags for cellphones - any as long as it came from Qatar and of course, the most important thing there is...

in giving.."it's the thought that counts.."

  10. Anything as long as it came from the heart. I'm from the UK but a pure Filipino. I have observed lots of Filipinos in the airport talking about pasalubongs and stuff and they bought some expensive branded t-shirts and I heard a man saying something it was" Ang cheap naman nyan, wala na bang mas mahal na bagay dyan? Para naman may masabi sila sa Pinas na galing UK tayo."  That guy was really weird. I only buy a London Key chain and A simple UK frame for my grandma's house. Chocolate for sure..

Dude, don't ever buy something really expensive. Just buy anything that would appreciate you friends, and family. I'm sure they'd be happy with it. =]

  11. when you get to the philippines, go to duty free and buy them chocolates or those packed marble cakes/bread. or the danish biscuits. something families can share so that you don't have to buy each person a gift. except for your immediate family that is.

  12. Something that makes pinoys happy.
