What's the best pet for a 10-ten year old boy?

I'm asking this because it's my brother's birthday on August.

Hamster.

It will be easy for him to clean or at least help clean the cage, its an in-expensive pet, and will provide him a LOT of entertainment. You should most def buy him a cage without a wheel on the inside of the cage if you understand what I mean. 10 is kind of young, I would say a dog but that is alot of responsibility, and a dog will be a commitment the boy will have for the next 10 or more years. He is not even a teenager yet so you will have to think of the years to come, and will he even have enough time to commit to such a big responsibility? I would say something like a fish, or a crab maybe. Also a cat might be a better suggestion over a dog, because they seem to be more independent .  If you do chose this, you might consider going to your local humane society as there are always animals in need of a good home, and in my experience there is always ALOT of young kittens ready to be adopted. It depends on what kind of animal he wants enough to have done a lot of research on, what your parents are willing to take care of, and what qualities a pet would need to suit your family.  A pet is not just a birthday present, it's a lifetime commitment, and it has feelings and has no choice but to hope it gets everything it needs for a comfortable life from whoever makes it live with them.

Well, if he can have a dog...get  him one if he's home enough to play with it.Cats are fine too as long as he isn't allergic to the fur.

fish aquqrium or puppies or cats but it also depend on him that what kind of animal he want and non of us can tell us that what kind of animal he want and is he really intrested in pets and can he took care of them without your help i write about fish aquariuum but i think that  it too difficult for him to take care of them because my father also give me a fish aquarium when i was a child but without my father i never able to take care of them.cats are so nasty and when they are angry they scratch all of the sofa's and pillows.so the best thing for him was a puppy or dog because they listen what are you telling him and they are very honest and they dont do mess and it is easier to take care of them
