  1. Harry Ramsden's

Chain of fish and chip restaurants.

    www.harryramsdens.co.uk

They make a beutiful fish and chip, and is just behind Oxford Circus

  2. Go and check out the back streets of Mayfair (i.e south of Oxford St, west of Regent Street) - there are LOADS of fancy sandwich places that aren't chains, lots of them with seating too - just go for a wander and you'll find something.

There's a little back alley off Berkeley Square called Jones Street where there's a good place, and another great one on Grosvenor Street, near the junction with New Bond Street.

Best to sample them all till you find a favourite. These places tend to cost a bit more than Pret (£4+) but it's worth it if you appreciate a fine sandwich.

  3. It depends what end of Oxford street you are.  If you are near Marble Arch go to St Christopher's Place where there are lots of nice restaurants and cafes or if you are near Tottenham Court Road end I would suggest going round the back streets.

  4. There is a Carluccio's just off St Christopher's Place (3-5 Barrett St, W1U 1AY) that has a deli counter selling little calzones and pizza slices, foccacia, cold meats, antipasti and such (mmm... chocolate tarts).  I've not been there at lunchtime but I am sure they'd probably sell you gourmet sandwiches, and if not you can buy everything you need to make your own.

    Yum.

If you have time for a sit down meal, there are loads of restaurants in the vicinity too.

  5. Ping Pong on Great marlborough Street.  fab place, great dim sum and the restaurant is pleasing n the eye if going for a special occasion.  Have the jasmine tea there and watch a little garden grow in your glass!

  6. Cheap and cheerful - head down Carnaby Street and check out the delis and sandwich bars off the side streets - there are some great value places down there

A bit more posh - try Andrew Edmonds or Circus off Beak Street in Soho

On a date or with a larger group - try Ping Pong on Great Marlborough Street - its a delicious dim sum restaurant with a really great interior

For sushi - you can't beat Kulu Kulu on Brewer Street

For curry - Masala Zone off Carnaby Street

For pizza - try the Pizza Express on Beak Street - they do jazz here too.

    Hope that helps!
