Question:

What's the best place to live for a somewhat experienced actor?

I'm currently in Austin, TX where I've done a few commercials and a bunch of indie films (mostly shorts). I'm in my 40s but very fit and decent looking. Texas, because of poor film incentives, doesn't have much work. I'm wondering which of the big incentive states (Michigan, Louisiana, New Mexico, etc.), and what cities in those states, would be the best place to make my stand. Any ideas?

  1. If you want to do theatre (Broadway, Off-Broadway) go to NYC and if you like doing film go to LA, I would also look into getting an agent

  2. Everyone I know who's a succesful actor has a home base in either Chicago, New York or LA - but then they travel EVERYWHERE. Seattle, Connecticut, Vancouver, wherever the work is. Austin is a great city and fine for a home base. Start subscribing to the trades and look for the work.

  3. Albuquerque for film. Chicago for stage and film.  Atlanta for stage and film.  Miami for film. No one in their right might would live in Michigan or Louisiana, great places to visit though..
