  2. what do you consider a professional camera and what is your budget?

  3. Define "professional camera".

Ok, typically professional camera is the Canon EOS 1DMarkIII or Nikon D3, costing thousands of dollars.

If you want professional quality for $400, you would have to get an old used Nikon 1D or similar Canon model.

If, however, you just want a SLR and don't require high FPS, low noise high ISO performance, body sealing, long-life mechanical components, etc., then a used Rebel EOS XT or Nikon D50 would do nicely.

  4. I would try to find a used Canon Digital Rebel (often called Canon 400d or XTI)

That will be the top of the line that will be in your budget. It also comes with a descent 18-55mm lens that is great for normal every day shooting, i still even use mine sometimes! Wikipedia it, you wont be dissapointed.

If you can get the XTi  for 400, then definately get it. It will be the best bang for your buck and you will be amazed with the quality. Just make sure you read up on it and you will truly learn how to take breathtaking pictures.

  5. Define "your budget"
