What's the best ring to use for the first couple weeks of a piercing?

I'm thinking of getting my lip pierced by my friend

[He has a kit and I trust him. He's done many before and they all turned out fine.]]

I was just wondering for the first couple weeks could I just use a clear bar/stud and no ring?

I can't have a ring for my job so using a clear stud will camouflage it a bit

  1. I would use a surgical steel labret stud -probably a 16 or 18 gauge, rather than a ring or a clear stud.

I understand your predicament regarding the use of a clear on, but most clear studs are plastic, which would not be a good idea until the piercing has healed in a few weeks.  You can always put a small band-aid over the visible part of the stud until it has healed to a point where you can use plastic.  If anybody questions it, just tell them that you have a zit, an open wound, or something like that, that you are wanting to keep protected and disguised from clients (I'm assuming that relations w/ customers is the reason that your boss doesn't want you to wear a ring).  I don't see why anyone would question you if you tell them that.

  2. It will be easier to heal with a bar than with a ring, it has be to be long enough to allow swelling though.

  3. Studs are so much better for healing, especially if you want to conceal your piercing. I'd go for the clear stud. Metals can agitate a fresh piercing.
