  1. That's a matter of personal opinion, that's why they make so many brands and models. But the high price does not mean it is the best rod and reel for you- many cheaper rods and reels may be better for the uses you would have for it.

  2. Go to GLoomis.  They have absolutely the finest graphite.  They are in my opinion the most sensitive.  Another company St Crouix is also making some excellent high end rods.  For reels, I prefer top of the line Shimano, or Diawa.

  3. Best one is the one you feel the most comfortable with a high price tag doesn't make it the best rod/reel you've got - it just means it's the most expensive....

  4. on rods for salt & fresh water i like Ugly Stik, for heavy duty deep fishing you could try Offshore.for freshwater depending on what size offish your heading for buy rods with the correct for you and the fish, if your heading for largemouth bass buy a light-medium to medium  10-15lb test line. olso check that the tip of the rod is flexible enough to fieel the lightest bite.

depending on the rod's reel sit and guides, you can use big spinning reels like Shimano and Abu Garcia if the rod are made for those big size spinning reels. if not, a rod thats more for spincasting and baitcasting (meaning all the rod's guids are the same sizes) then get those reels. check the action of the reel and the line capacity, or you can always buy a combo of a rod and reel.

lsten to Joe just be comfortable with it and ofcource price doesnt make a difference.

  5. Wow... a thousand a lot for a rod and reel. But what are trying to catch, and where are you trying to catch it??? If you're planning to get a surf / saltwater. I'll recommend a 10 or 11 foot Tsunami Airwave for under 150.00. Or a Tica rod , anywhere between 80.00 to 300.00(Tica Dolphin) I heard Tica reels are alright, but I prefer my Shimano 4500 baitrunner and my Shimano Sedona 6000.

But if you're fishing freshwater... sorry can't help you there... Just ignore my answer... lolz

  6. if you want the very best a thousand wont cut it. the best rod is probably a seeker. those can coast u a few hundred for an ok one to a 1,2,3,+ thousand if you want a good one. for the reel theres really not only one good brand out there theres alot of good brands. some of the Japanese brand reels are pretty good or you can get an american one there both good. it also really depends on if you wanna go fresh water or salt water fishing. seeker makes mostly salt water rods. i wold definitely recommend salt water its much more fun

  7. You need to be comfortable with the rod and reel and the only way to do that is to go try some out. As Joe said, it's not the price of the rod it's the quality that goes into the design and building of the rod and reel.I have a matched rod & reel combo from a well known manufacturer. The rod seems lumbersome while casting and I almost gave it away until I hooked a decent sized fish then the rod became a pure joy to use with silky smooth action and lots of backbone. I now have and use two of these rods. And they cost under $100.00 each.
