I will be travelling Italy in July and still cannot figure out the best (cheapest and quickest) way to get from Sorrento area to Brindisi so I can catch a ferry to Greece. Please help me out if anybody out there reading this has already made that trip or maybe if you are a native to Italy and can help. Thanks in advance !

  1. Take the Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples. Schedules at: http://www.sorrento-online.com/english/o...

Then take the train from Naples to Caserta and transfer to a Eurostar to Brindisi. The quickest Naples to Brindisi trip is about 5 hours, but could be 6 depending on the connections. The total time will depend on what you go and the connections.

The fastest options leave Naples at 08:24 (to Benevento instead of Caserta),  09:36 (to Taranto instead of Caserta) , 14:15 to Caserta, 14:25 to Caserta, 16:14 to Caserta, 16:17. There are other connections with longer travel times and more train changes.

Depending on when your ferry leaves, you may want to consider the night train. Leave Naples at 22:32 catch the train in Caserta at 2:36 and arrive in Brindisi at 7:56. This isn't great, but you can get a bed for the 5 hours from Caserta, there's enough of a layover there that you shouldn't have to worry about the connection, and you might have time to see some of Brindisi when you arrive. A second class seat is 29.40 euro, a cuchette (in a 4 bed compartment) is 50.50 euro.

A better option for the night train choice would be to go from Naples to Rome and catch either of two trains between 23:30 and midnight that go all the way to Brindisi. The first train arrives at 8:40, the second is an intercity night train that arrives at 7:56.

Second class tickets from Naples to Brindisi on the day trains cost about 36 euro.
