My aunt is planning to go to Costa Rica. Flights from the Philippines to Costa Rica will have a connecting flight at the U.S. The problem is my aunt doesn't have a US visa so she can't pass through US. What is the best route from the Philippines to Costa Rica without passing through US?

  1. manila to tokyo to mexico city to san jose.....on JAL and mexicana.....

ok, there are one or two more i am sure...but from manila you must first go somewhere in asia first....

after that, there are no nonstop flights to costa rica from japan.

if you can get to vancouver, then you could go to mexico city agian, then san jose.  that would be longer,

i think the only asia to mexico flight is tokyo to mexico city.  there are no tokyo to san jose flights....

that is all i can find/think of....no use connecting in south america.  even if there was one...it would be a very very long flight.

    good luck

  2. You don't need a visa to get through U.S. The guy that answered first had it right.

You can stop in Mexico or Panama City if you want to avoid U.S.

  3. Yes she can pass through the U.S. without a visa. The U.S. no lnonger has such a thing as a transit visa...BUT , international passengers who simply need to make  connecting flight in the U.S. may do so. They are required to go through customs and wait in a special international waiting room for their next flight.  This eliminates the need for a visa.  See site below.  Enter her nationality, transit point, and destination.  Then click for the info. and you will see a complete explatation.  You can also confirm this with the airline.

  4. My gf is also filippina (i'm canadian) & we want to travel there too & avoid going thru the US...so we're going to apply for her to get a Canada Visitor VISA (which is alot easier to get than a USA VISA).  We'll go to my country 1st, then fly direct to Costa Rica.

For a filippino passport holder, they can go to Costa Rica VISA-free, but all international flights to San Jose come from either Canada, USA, Latin America, or Europe...So there's no VISA-free country you can fly from to begin with...

*You can check all the airlines & destinations for San Jose's airport on wiki

    good luck,
