If this question even makes sense...

How do you stay motivated is what I'm basically asking.

  1. there are a few ways. For example, find pictures that inspire you to write. Or picture your book as a movie and it being really good and everyone loves the book and the movie and your making millions of dollars for it.

Or you can listen or connect with writers that write about similar things and share ideas. Or you can watch movies or read books that are the same genre as yours. These are someways that I stay motivated

  2. Listening to good music. I re-read my stuff a lot, even like a few sentences up, and I get that rush of accomplishment. Watching a good movie too(before). I can't watch anything while I write, I usually have music or silence, and just the small clatter of my fingers on the keyboard keep me going. My mind has a lot to do with it. I usually pour whatever it is out onto paper, and slowly I'll come to a stop, and wait for the next idea. Inspirational quotes too. Piano music. Or reading a really good book, just even a part of it. Comments from friends helps to, I'm not exactly the person to flash stuff in people's faces, but I shared part of something with a close friend, we did like an exchange thing, and her comments just made my day. Looking up stuff related or researching information related to whatever you're writing really helps too.

    good luck!!

also... looking on other writer's sites help too. they sometimes have tips or thoughts.. etc... and that helps... and you know you're not alone when you have a writer's black... lol

  3. I'm a writer myself. And usually when I'm on my computer I listen to music or watch a movie or a TV Show. What I usually do is not to listen or watch anything. It'll distract me, and I want to keep being inspired for the films I write.

  4. For me, I just think about why I began writing in the first place. I think about that goal at the end of the tunnel, so to speak.

Once someone sets a goal, that person should do everything possible to reach it. If I tell myself I'm going to jump my horse three times, no matter how difficult he's being, you better believe I'm going to jump him three times.

I think about how I'm creating this amazing story with so many twists and what kind of message I'm portraying. I think about it being on the shelves one day. I think about passing by someone reading it and being able to hold an intelligent discussion with that person about it.

My friends, family, teachers, and strangers also help keep me motivated. 90% of my motivation is me, but 10% of the motivation is from others. If no one liked my writing, it'd be hard for me to keep writing. There are people out there who don't, but I take their criticism with a grain of salt and figure out why they don't like it.

It's also the excitement about seeing my word in print--about thousands of people reading it--not just hundreds like your school newspaper.

I also love to spark controversy. Thinking about sparking controversy helps keep me motivated as well.

It's just the exhiliration, the rush of writing, putting fingers on keys and putting down what I've been in love with since I was eight. There isn't a day where I don't write.

  5. For me personally it is renewing my passion for the particular project I am working on. For example if I were writing a novel on an Italian family who immigrated to Melbourne to run a fresh fish stall, I would go to the immigration museum, or go to the fresh food markets and and chat to some of the merchants. Anything you think may re-ignite the spark to get you typing again.

I would also suggest setting up a schedule or list of goals and sharing with someone who can hold you accountable to these - not in a 'whip you to make you type more' way, but most people tend to work better with some form of deadline or accountability.

    Good luck.
