What's the best score you've ever gotten to start out a Scrabble game?

I think mine was like 70 something. Oh and another question: if you throw down a 10 point tile (Z or Q or whatever) on a triple letter space but you also hit a double or triple word space, do you triple the letter and THEN triple/double the word or triple/double the word at face value THEN add the tripled letter scores?

  1. The double or triple letters are calculated first and then the double or triple word is calculated.

I remember starting the game with a 7 letter word once but I believe it was mostly common or 1 point tiles.

  2. From the National Scrabble Association:

The highest first score I have ever received is 106 for ZINCATE

"National Scrabble Association Rule II.E.: E. Score DLSs [Double Letter Scores] and TLSs [Triple Letter Scores] before DWSs [Double Word Scores] and TWSs [Triple Word Scores] When scoring a turn, all premiums from double or triple letter values, if any, are totaled before doubling or tripling the word score. "

  3. A few years ago playing scrabble with my daughter I made the word "quizzing" on a "double triple" word score, using a blank tile.  I am not sure if we scored it correctly, but the score for the word alone was 36 (z was on a double letter), then we tripled that twice, so that was 108 + 108, and I added the "g" to the word "tannin" to make "tanning", which was 8 points plus 50 points for using all my letters for a total of 274 points.

But here is a link to a much better one turn score!

EDIT   Yes, you triple the letter score first, and then double the word score.
