Question:

What's the best sit-up exercise procedure?

Different people have different ways of doing sit ups...

(1) Some get a buddy to hold their feet down while the person performing the sit-up come all the way up to the vertical sitting position.

(2) Some perform the above scenario, but as they're coming up, they twist to the side. This is alternated twisting left to right on each repetition of the exercise.

(3) Others don't even perform a full sit-up. (It's more of an abdominal crunch, which looks like "half a sit-up").

Which is the correct method? (1), (2) or (3) ??

Could you do damage to your back by doing a sit-up the wrong way?

All advice welcome, thanks.

  1. They all work, but I prefer using a balance ball for better range of motion

  2. They are all good but the first one is mainly for those who have weaker abs and struggle to lift themselves up without lifting their feet but also it gives better balance.

Do 2 and 3 because they will get your abs pumping and hurting for sure.

The 3rd one is good but i mean you have to do loads for it to take effect.

  3. Any way is just a different variation which is fine.  Add extra weight when you can.
