What's the best sporty, mid-sized car that is good on gas?

I'm going starting college this fall and I'm looking for a car that is sporty-looking, not too small, and good on gas. I want payments to be less than $200 per month and I have about $10,000 in hand to spend up front.

Your best bet is a Mitsubishi Lancer(28-30) or the Chevy Cobalt which gets like 35 MPG

Corvette, a 2002 gets about 30 mpg highway.  You would have to look at a 98 or 99 for that money?
