  1. http://www.chase.com/index.jsp?pg_name=c...

I HAVE THE HIGH SCHOOL CHECKING ACCOUNT

  2. all banks are good. the idea is to start saving. call banks in your area to check the interest rates there offering to find the best one. good luck

  3. Well I have had experiences with student accounts from 4 major banks, so I think I know best in this matter (not being big-headed, just realistic) :)

I had student accounts with Barclays, Natwest, LLoyds, and HSBC. Now, as your not interested in freebies, I have to say that HSBC has UNDOUBTEDLY the most helpful and efficient customer service out of all of the 4. I found Lloyds was second best when it came to customer service, then Natwest, and lastly Barclays. For example, Barclays seemed to want appointments for everything - even a simple enquiry! Whereas I could just walk into my local HSBC on any busy day and they won't tell me to make an appointment. I really do feel valued as a customer with them :)

In addition, with a student account the bank is meant to raise your student interest-free overdraft by a certain amount each year as you progress on your course. Barclays, Natwest and Lloyds always needed me to call and ask them "why hasn't my overdraft been increased this year?" whereas HSBC always did it automatically as promised.

So at the end of the day, it's all about customer service, and I cannot recommend HSBC enough to be honest :)

    Hope that helped!

  4. Nat West you get discount rail card and very good service my daughter has one

  5. You are right not to be swayed by the freebies, these should be a bonus not the reason for picking an account.

When looking for an account firstly look at the amount of interest free overdraft you will receive. Halifax currently offers the most at £3,000.

Next look at the authorised overdraft rate on any additional borrowing, as it is highly likely you will need to increase your overdraft further.

  6. Depends what you want. I go with Natwest cos i get a rail-card which i need. Different banks will probably give u different things. Like halifax will give you a flipping teddy bear.
