  1. you dont want to get a really big sub for that kind of music. there are really 3 different main sizes for subs:8,10 and 12 inches. (they have 15 and higher too but those arent as common)

8 inches will have very punchy bass. the kind of bass that hits you every time the bass hits like you described. however they dont have very deep bass. so with some songs the bass might not be as good as others depending on how low the bass goes down. i would go with a 10 inch sub with about 200 watts at least. make sure its a powered sub if you are using it in a home theater. 10 inch subs have more boomy sound but they will go down lower and should be perfect for the type of music you will be listening to. 12 inch subs have very deep boomy bass thats good for rap but not so good for rock and techno. so go with a 10. good luck :)

oh and since your budget is so high buy the one with the most power you can. the beauty of powered subs is that they have amps matched to them so you cant really overpower them. so turn it up:)

  2. My dad has gotten his home theater subwoofers from Cambridge Soundworks.

They have home theater subwoofers with up to 1000 watt amplifiers.  They have refurbished units priced around that range right now.  Brand new they were up to a grand.  I'm sure there will be some sort of warranty, its a good company.  Too bad a lot of them are discontinued though.
