  1. Here's a myth from Russia:

"Throw a stray cat on the bed when you first move in. If the cat is settled and lies down on the bed, it's a good house, but if it runs away then the house will be full of strife."

What if it decides the floor is more comfortable?

What if it dies on the bed from feline tuberculosis?

dont wear red on new years as it will mean death for the new year

have alot of money in your pocket on new years so you can have money for the year

  3. put a penny over every window on new years and money will enter your home

  4. In Scotland, at New Year - it is considered lucky for the first person to set foot in your house on the 1st of January to be a dark haired male with a bottle of alcohol.

And after 12 o'clock, you should go and open the door to let the old year out, and let the new year in.

There is a saying that applies in the UK,

Red sky at night, Shepherds delight. Red sky in the morning - shephards warning.

The word shepherd is substituted by Sailor in certain areas. The red sky is an omen for the weather - the delight points to a good day!
