Question:

What's the best thing to do with old, broken electronics?

I have an old Panasonic DVD recorder from about 6 years ago just taking up space in my closet. There is a DVD stuck in it and and it is permanently in "Reading" mode. It was a really good one for it's time and had a HUGE hard drive. I (obviously) have no use for the thing but don't want to just throw it away. I am not looking to make any money from it. Any suggestions on a place to donate such items (maybe somewhere that will use it for parts)? I have so many other things, most in perfect condition, that I just don't use anymore.

Thank you in advance.

  1. sell it or get it fixed dvd recorders with huge hard drives are hard to come by

  2. RECYCLE

  3. great question ! in our town we always donate electronics or other items to the S.P.C.A. thrift store . they resell and most of there profit goes to feed animals . maybe you have a thrift store that would love to receive them .   good luck .

also food banks sometimes has resale stores .

  4. Just throw them out the window

  5. Goodwill - they have electronics training in many places that like to fix items like this as part of the training. (I guess you are in the US?)

  6. You could always wrap it up as a present addressed to 'Madge' and put it on your doorstep.  Somebody will eventually take it...

  7. I'd guess that a second hand store would take it, even knowing that it is not exactly fully functioning. People like to tinker with things. My step brother is one of them. He likes fixing up old computers, etc. He buys misc parts and devices through ebay and yard sales, as well as salvation army.
