  1. We were there in March.  It was a nice time to go because the weather was nice and there weren't many tourists as in summer.  Quito was a little cooler, but along the coast, it was nice and warm.  I think if you can avoid the summer, that's better because that's when a lot of Americans and Canadians travel.  It's nice to travel when there are not as many tourists around.

  3. Weather in Ecuador is fairly stable and travelers can visit the country year round. Some areas are better to visit certain times of the year, but there are no months when one should not travel in the country do to weather.

    Ecuador Mainland

Only about the size of Colorado, Ecuador has a surprising variety of climates, and because of Ecuador's unique geography the weather can be very localized. The weather also has a tendency to change very quickly.

    The Sierra (Mountains)

In the sierra, the dry season is from June to September with average temperatures around (68°F/20°C). Meanwhile, in the middle of a dry season, the western sierra will be struck with strong winds, little rain and higher temperatures. For the rest of the year, the sierra is often marked by sunny morings with cloudy and sometimes rainy afternoons.

    The Amazon

With the rainy season ranging from September to April and average temperatures at (84°F/28°C), the Amazon basin is what you would expect of a tropical rainforest, wet. Raining most days in the afternoon the Amazon basin is truly a rainforest. From May to August the average temperature increases to around (90°F/32°C) along with the frequency of the rainfall.

    The Coast

On the much drier coast, the dry season runs from about June to December with a temperature drop to about (79°F/26°C). The garua, a damp mist, has a tendency to cast itself over the coastline and the sun. The sun can disappear for three months at a time. Then in January to June temperatures go up and despite the occasional heavy rain, the days will be bright and sunny.
