What's the best tool to rip off your lawn?

I'm about to rip my front lawn away so that it is just bare soil so that I can start a new lawn. However, I need to know what equipments I need so that I can tear out the old lawn. The lawn is of good size. I can't give exact dimensions but its your average front lawn in Los Angeles. Can anyone recommend particular equipment??

Definately a self propelled sod cutter. It cuts as deep or shallow(within reason) as you need it and is easy to control. It will cut your sod in a continuous strip and all you have to do is roll it up and carry it off! Hope this helps! You should be able to get it at most rental companies.

DEFINITELY a sod cutter, you should see how that thing shaves up the lawn, you can pick it up after like pieces of CARPET!!!! so cool, just go ta a garden store and as for one! Or you could ven RENT one from home depot!
