  1. Best training would be in the pub. Build up your right arm muscles and practice dropping your trousers. I know a few props and that's all they seem to do

  2. get your self a tractor tire (or lorry tire)  secure it with a long piece of rope. (bout 15 feet) tie the rope around your waist and tow it for 50 yd runs. that should get the old pushing power in your legs.

  3. Most props need to work on general fitness as they already have the strength and size to play in the front row. If that's not you then you can adjust your program to concentrate more on those things but otherwise I'd say just go with a general fitness program.

These days everyone need to be fit, even props have to run. They need to be there for more than just the set pieces.

Pick any one of the programs below. They are not prop specific but they are a good starting point.

I don't agree that you should run around with weights in a rucksack, that would put way to much stress on your joints.

  4. put some weight in your racksack, and run around your park or your garden, dont put too much weight!

  5. to days game is more about agility and strength, don't get me wrong you need to scrummage but if your fitter than your opposite man you will get the better of him.  i used to squat leg press bench and back workout in the same session and alternate my routine Monday weights Tues fitness cardio workout wed weights, Thurs game plan and fitness rest Fri and light couple of k Sunday to get beer out of me ready for Monday again.  ill be perfectly honest and say if you got good technique or able to read your man that's better tan any weights session anyone can hit machine and look good but you go live scrummage  its different i was 13.5 stone playing  nation league of wales hooker in higher division i moved over to prop 1 game and never looked back

  6. When I used to play, it was a few pints at the club, followed by a session of slapping both of us pushing against the scrummage machine a few run arounds doing moves, afew line outs for lifting and then a lot more pints in the bar and singing.

Howerver that was 10 - 25 years ago.

Now days i see lots of our main team props in the gym eating pasta and juice, cycling a lot and putting two or three training sessions in a week.

    Things have changed a lot!
