I'm travelling to Japan at the end of the year and will be there for a month in december. I'll be spending most of my time in tokyo but would like to travel around i.e. hokkaido, sendai, osaka kyoto, etc.

I want to buy a travel guide book but i don't know which one is the best and can't decide which to get. I was planning to get the Lonely Planet Japan guide, but then saw other books such as the EyeWitness Guide to Japan, Japan rough guide, etc. Please help me to choose one that will be helpful for my trip. thank you.

  1. Definitely, rough guide. I agreed with most of it and found it easy to follow, when I was in Japan.

  2. i think Lonely planet book is the best. u can try Rough guide also..have fun

  3. http://www.japan-guide.com/

    http://www.secret-japan.com/forum/

    http://www.tourism.metro.tokyo.jp/englis...

    http://gojapan.about.com/cs/traveltools/...

You may choose some of standard travel guide books but the web sites would be much easier and significant for latest information.

  4. i would recommend lonely planet. i haven't used the japanese edition, but i have always found them to be informative and reliable. whether trying to find the best cheese shop in amsterdam (i don't know if it was the 'best' but i did find a very good cheese shop thanks to lonely planet) or choosing which of the phillipines islands to visit for a recent vacation (i chose to visit the island of bohol based upon the information in lonely planet and i was extremely happy that i did) or even as a guide for visitors to my own city and country i would use and recommend lonely planets travel guides anytime.
