What's the best tree?

I live in Northwest Arkansas. What is the best tree to plant that will provide the most shade to the house and grow the quickest as well? I want to put it in the front yard so curb appeal is a factor. Shade is my biggest driving point to help keep my house cooler during the summer months. I have a brick exterior and by evening my AC unit is working triple overtime and my electric bills are rediculous.

they grow fast, and provide shade and attract hummingbirds.

  3. get a fast growing poplar started on your south or west side.  near it, start a soft maple [silver] that will be large enough when the poplar dies and will outlive it by years. and if you're young, get a hard maple started near them.  the hard maple will take a long time to grow but will give you the best shade ever and the longest life span.  also, to help with the electric bills, keep the cool IN. get some insulation blown in your attic and check windows and doors for warping or cracks.  good luck!

  4. If your goal is shade as quickly as possible look at the Hybrid Poplar. It grow about 8 feet a year. The tree is perimidal shape and can reach 40 feet.

  5. osage orange

  6. Plumerias and Japanese maples

  7. Plant a Tulip Tree.  They are fast growers, have magnificant fall color and take on a nice shape.  They are the tallest growing native trees to north america.  They grow up to 100 feet in cultivation and up to 200 feet in the wild.
