For Giant Slalom racing (Masters level) what would you consider the best turn radius? 17m? I've noticed that as skill levels increase the radius tends to increase. Is that true? I'm only an advanced intermediate but I like to go fast.

  1. No that is not true it is 17 cm

  2. I think an FIS legal GS ski has to be a 21m radius. But for masters racing, you need not be FIS compliant.  Therefore many racers use a "cheater ski" which is labeled as a GS ski, but it has a 14-17m turn radius.  I don't know that there is any "best " turn radius. Some GS courses are faster than others, some have the gates farther apart, some are steeper.  The Radius of your ski also can change as your ski bends, so the stiffness of the ski is also a factor.
