I am going to run Cross Country this year as a Junior, we have to run a total of 500 miles from June 9 - August 2 and then we run until mid October with the possibility of running through to Thanksgiving. Afterwhich, I will switch to playing soccer.

Which shoes are the best to with stand running an average of 50 miles a week.

I know that comfort level, and space are important.

I currently run wearing a pair of silver Nikes http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/footwear/mens/running&start=40&zoom=1&selectedSKU=0502-02080-3800

I also need a pair of cross country spikes. What's recommended for that.

Keep price in mind as well.

Thanks everyone.

  1. for just running work outs and practices, go with a pair of saucony or brooks sneakers, or go to your local running shoe store and get fitted into a pair for you. we have a store called endrance athletics. they have foot skeletons (not real, just models) to show you how your foot is. if you have a flat arch high arch ect. but they have many good runner brands to choose from. they fit you into a shoe that will best help you run. i personally wear saucony sneakers. but do not get any snaeker that does not say is for running. it does not have the right support. but for xc invitationals and meets (as long as you dont have any shin or ankle problems) you should wear spikes. they are flat shoes that have metal spikes in them. they help you grip the ground better. (but dont run on macadum with them pretty much all the courses i run on are grass or dirt, but if a little is macadum, its ok) but i have noticed they do help you. you might not like them becuase they have no support whatsoever. but you can wear any brand. i personally wear nike and saucony spikes. but you can get them at any local running store, or sporting good store. ask for XC spikes or distance track spikes. if you are planning to run distance for track as well, you can use the same spikes for track. but so not get sprinter spikes. sprinter spikes have no heel at all, and distance and cross country spikes have a heel. (well, if you are going to be a sprinter in track get sprinter spikes for track and XC spikes for XC) but i use the same spikes as i do in XC becuse i run distance. but also you will need to wear longer spikes in distance spikes because you need more grip and traction for running for more time. good luck this year in XC!

  2. check out the local shoe store and try some pumas and see what you think i love them for running. they are so light and pretty comfortable and i think being so light they have helped my run speeds and i am not a competitive runner
