  1. Look for smaller diameter subs ... 8"s or 10"s will generally have better SQ than 12"s or 15"s. Of course for the same volume you will need more of them.

Use sealed enclosures instead of bandpass or ported enclosures. Keep the Q of the sealed box as close to 0.707 as you can manage.

Look into using an isobaric setup. This involves mounting two woofers face to face so that they behave as one woofer. The upside is that they are twice as stiff as a single, have twice the power handling, and they work together to cancel out any mechanical distortion in either subwoofer. However, they require more than twice the power than a single subwoofer for the same volume.

Unless you have a _lot_of_space_ and a _lot_of_money_ it really is one or the other ... or at least a nice compromise ... between SQ and SPL.

As far as specific subs ... look for one with a free-air resonance thats the lowest you can find along with a higher efficiency/sensitivity. Other then that ... the specific brand you buy has much less effect on SQ than proper design of the enclosure and a clean signal provided to it.

  2. a ten is the best for quick clean base in a sealed box. i prefer a good 12" in a sealed box though, it sacrifices a little of the fast base, but it gives you a little more thump. a sealed box will get very big, when you go to a bigger speaker. i like a JL Audio Single 12W7 Sub in Sealed Enclosure.

  3. the good quality sound depends on many things.

    car damping, subwoofer place etc.

What do you call sound quality? I guees you will not need to ask for it after you will know where and what the real quality is.

for the subwoofer - the smaller cone excursion used, the higher quality you have. The smaller cone excursion - the larger cone area you need to have for loud sound. The larger cone area you have - the stronger "motor" for the cone to drive it propertly you need. so the myth about speaker diameter is stupid and false. You need good speakers. not 8", 12", 15" or 18"....

you need to find your compromise and your needs, and after you find it, you will know what to choose.

  4. SPL godfather subs lmfao jl audio does not have any spl subwoofers and infinity makes great everything for sound quality the re x*x is a good subwoofer for sound quality much better then the w7  and the thing gets d**n loud its mainly gonna depend on your box

  5. I'd pick a JL Audio W6 or a Boston Acoustics G5.  I've auditioned both subs extensively and am amazed how controlled these subs sound even when driven hard.  Both have excellent excursion so if you want a SQ sub that can go loud, these are very good picks.  Able to handle 500W, 450W RMS respectively.

Interesting how they're both a step down from their SPL godfather subs.

  6. Focal, the best out there.

  7. My personal favorite are boston acoustics.  The G5's are a great sounding sub that has some benefits.  I would use a single 12 in a sealed enclosure.  They will handle a lot of power in a small sized box.  They are designed with SQ in mind and have a replaceable cone kit that you can install yourself.  The price point is quite reasonable.  Did I mention they sound awesome?

Good luck, you won't go wrong with Boston.

  8. BOSTON ACOUSTICS G5

    TREO ENGINEERING TSX

    INFINITY  KAPPA

this are the best we used for SQ

  9. i love pioneer premier for spl, but for sql,  jl audio......i would put the pioneer premiers in a proper sealed box recommended by pioneer and u will get good sql,  which is spl and sq combined

  10. you can never go wrong with kickers
