  1. poor dog!  please dont do this!

they do  best with meat in their diets because that is how it is supposed to be..

  2. Aw that is so cruel.

I think you should stop thinking about yourself and let your dog eat what it's supposed to.

That's even worse than vegans/vegetarians not allowing their children to eat meat.

  3. Avoderm makes a vegetarian dog food but if I were you I'd stick with a high quality non-veg dog food. Most of the protein from the vegetarian dog foods come from soy and I just don't think it'll be healthy for dogs to be eating so much soy especially when there's alot of debate on how healthy it is for us. Some good brand names for high quality dog foods are Innova, California Natural, Solid Gold, Nutro.

  4. Feeding a carnivore (dog or cat) a vegan diet is animal cruelty. Dogs have far shorter intestines relative to their size than humans, and are not equipped to extract nutrition from vegetables. In fact, one standard trick to reduce overweight dogs is to feed them carrots. They love them and eat them but don't digest them.

If you want a vegan pet, get a hamster or a rabbit.

  5. Thats quite horrible, to tell you the truth. Dogs were born with the instinct of eating meat and you want to force it to become a vegan. Poor dog...

  6. Dogs are not carnivores, they are omnivores.

Cats are carnivores and cannot be vegan.

Dogs can be vegan and perfectly healthy.

    --------------------------------------...

LOL, 90% of the people that said feeding a dog vegetarian is cruel would probably feed their dog c**p food from a grocery store like Pedigree or Iams.

  7. dogs are obligate carnivores, and should be fed a diet reflecting that.  There are actually ceartin human vegetables that cause a great deal of harm to our furry friends.  Feed your dog a quality product but be sure to give it it's natural diet

  8. Hello.  As  a vegan, I see how you would like your best animal friend to be vegan as well - pet food is made with some horrible things! I believe that you can actually make your own vegan blend of dog food.  A previous poster did mention the same yes, dogs can be vegan (but cats cannot be)- people will say its wrong and cruel, but actually dogs are opportunist eaters - much like bears - they will eat whatever they come across that seems edible.  Its is said that the worlds oldest living dog is a vegan.

    --------------------------------------...

27-year-old vegan border collie could be world's oldest living dog

Bramble's owner Anne Heritage says she's still alert and active and goes for

a walk four times a day near her home in Bridgwater, Somerset.

The 43-year-old says she feeds her a vegan diet of rice, lentils and organic

    vegetables.

  9. well dont let your dog eat IAMS they abuse their animals and subject them as laboratory animals.

If you cant find one let it eat vegetarian food.

    but here

  10. Yes there are vegan/vegetarian dog food formulations that can fit YOUR lifestyle.

But I seriously doubt the dog will consciously choose to eat a vegan diet or choose to be a vegan.

Ask yourself what the dog will really eat if it was not your pet.

Your lifestyle is yours but isn't it hypocritical to force your dog to follow it while you are lamenting the fact that animals are being kept and exploited solely for man's pleasure? You are basically exploiting your dog's inability to directly communicate it's wants and literally forcing your lifestyle down it's throat. It's choices are eat the vegan food, or starve. Not much of a choice.

It would not be so hypocritical if you were not a vegan but you are one and animal exploitation is one of the cornerstones of the lifestyle. what happened to practicing what you preach?

  11. dogs don't care what they eat as long as they eat.  You put food out and they'll eat it.  If you leave it out all the time they'll get overweight b/c they constantly eat, based on natural instinct that they must eat when given the oppurtunity.  Look at people walking dogs, and you'll see most of the pets are unhealthy and overweight.  You see a small poodle bulging from the sides b/c the owner is too stupid to realize that the dog doesn't know when to say no.  The natural instinct is to eat as much as you can, when you can.  In the wild dogs wouldn't get food that often, and hence go by that instinct.  But even domesticated dogs don't know when to stop.

  12. I've read about this a lot. I KNOW there are vegan dog foods out there, but it's not really a good idea. Dogs are definitely carnivores. They were designed that way. It's a fact of nature. To feed him otherwise would most likely make him sick.
