I'm flying to New York next week and really want to purchase a (semi-)professional high definition videocamera.

I'm looking for a camera that has a) manual focus ring, b) manual zoom ring and c) manual aperture ring.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!!

  1. You may want to check the reviews:

Input the prosumer or prof camcorder models for reviews & comparative prices:

  2. Canon XHA1

    Sony HDR-FX1, FX7, HVR-V1U, Z1U

    Panasonic HVX200

The XHA1 and FX1 are on my short list because of their low-light capabilities. The FX1 is the consumer version of the Z1U; the FX7 is the consumer version of the V1U. I do not need XLR mic jacks built-in to the camcorder because I have a BeachTek DXA-6 and juicedLink CX231. The pro versions have some other features, but for my requirements, 1080i (and standard definition) are all I need (to augment - not replace - my Sony HDR-HC1). You can take a look at the Sony HDR-A1U, too... It's zoom and focus ring are shared - you have to move a switch to pick the feature you want to control, and the exposure control is a rocker switch. It is the pro version of the HC1.

This does not mean the Panny doesn't do well - it does... but the P2 cards would mean a change in my post-production process that I am not yet willing to change.

  3. Go to a Web site call CNet.Com. They have reviews to just about anything you could want. And the reviews are UNBIASED!
