one of my favorite was Salt Lake City, I had a transit there,

while landing I said to myself, this is one of most beautiful things i ever seen in my life. It was the view of the different salt lakes with strange colours.

and behind me, there were two girls, and one was telling the other: "oooh, this is a gross, this is very ugly".

I realized the same thing can mean different to different people.

  1. Coast of Greenland from the right side of an Icelandair 757 headed to the US.  It was a surprise to see it when I woke up.  It seemed like we had dropped about 10,000 feet because the mountains and bays and fjords were so clear, but I guess the altitude of mountains only made it seem that much closer.  Stunning -- I'll never forget it.

  2. When I flew into Heathrow airport... Looking down at England as a whole country.. or what I could see of it through the cloud cover, then looking at London as we flew in...

Being from a country town in Australia, it was very impressive.

  3. I have seen the northern lights from an airplane.  It was one of the most majestic things I have seen yet.  I also saw the wildfires burning at night on the west coast a few years ago.

  4. I remember seeing wonderful islands from the window of my plane when I was going to Singapore from the Philippines. Spectacular sites to behold. I thought about the Maldives & what it might look like from above. Of course, I must've been passing over Malaysia. I remember seeing islands prior to reaching Singapore. They were very impressive to look at. I haven't seen anything quite like it.

  5. I agree with you, Salt Lake City is amazing, too!

One of my most memorable moments/views was while I was landing at the old Hong Kong airport in the early 90's. The view of the greenery, large rugged mountains, water, and the surrounding humungous buildings--what an amazing view, almost surreal! I thought we were going to crash into them, we were soooo close! I think the airport was right in between these massive buildings so we had to descend very steeply! I could actually see the people in their homes watching TV!!! Very cool and scary! Amazing!
