Well here's some information about me:

I'm almost 5'7"

I'm 14

I'm trying out for freshman volleyball in summer

I don't know how to indicate my skills for each position

I'm an 'alright' jumper

I have fast reflexes (hehe, hope it helps)

Is there any way for me to discover what I'm good at? Please reccommned my position.

  1. well for your height you should probably try being a hitter.im the same age as you but 5'3" & i suck at hitting so i play libero. but it really depends on your skills.i have great passing skills so libero is perfect for me.i started as setter and hated it but i just depends on what you're good at & what positions are needed on the team.if you dont think you can be a hitter which is the same thing as a spiker just so you know you can try passing up spiked/hit balls & if you pass those up you try for libero b/c that is what a libero specializes in & fast reflexives are great for this position.if that doesnt work & you arent very good at that try setting balls someone passes to you.& you should really try these things with someone that is on the team or an actual volleyball player that is pretty good because someone that doesnt know how to play isnt gonna really be able to help you.& learning from someone that knows how to play could help you avoid some bad habits that will be hard to break & actually teach you the correct way to pass, set, hit, and serve the ball.b/c trust me i have seen so many ppl hurt themselves in p.e. when they're doing what they call "playing volleyball". when what they're actually doing is slapping a ball over a net.

  2. libero/ds, or outside.

depends on what your coach wants you to play though, so you can't be for sure what your position is gonna be

  3. well im the same height as you and i had the same problem. i started out playing as a middle hitter. but now im an outside hitter. alot of coaches say the between teh height of 5' 7'' is a very versatile height. you can almost play any position if you wanted to. becasue your tall you could be a hitter at any position. you could also be a setter, and since you have quick feet your a good canidate for a libero. my advice to you is to try out all of the positions because you still have your freshman year to find out where your good at. A good thing about learning all of the positions is that your not just stuck in one place only. you want to be that go-to player that every coach dreams of!!! Just explore!!!

  4. with your height you should be perfect for a hitter but since you have fast reflexes you should be perfect for a backrow passer and maybe even backrow hitting since you have fast reflexes and tall enough

  5. sounds like you would be a pretty goo hitter. Maybe not the middle hitter (2) but maybe an outside hitter (5) especially if you are left handed, but if your not its ok. also you could play back, its ok not my fav, but its still a hitting position. Also work on your over hand and jump serves, coaches love a consistent server, you will be almost certain of maximum playing time if you have a really good, consistent serve.

  6. Try every postion, see what u are best at and like the best. It sounds like you might be a good setter. Most college setters are around 5'7'' and you have to be able to jump pretty well.

  7. you sound like you could be a good libero. all you need is good passing. go to an open gym, if there is one in your area, and see how well you pass and dig. liberos have to have quick reactions, quick feet, read the ball/setter/hitter, have a good sense of the flow of the game (both are hard to master), and must not be afraid to dive to get a ball. if this doesn't work for you, try playing outside. outsides must be decent in all of the above, plus being ready for a set every time, even the junk sets, serving, blocking, setting, and must be smart when they go to hit a ball (knowing when and where to hit, tip or shot the ball). one last thing you can do is go to a camp over the summer. camps can make you much better, and the coaches there will know what position is suited for you. i am basing my suggestions only on what you have provided, so i do not know if you are a good passer. good luck.
