What's the best way for a writer to get his work out there and recognized?

My boyfriend is a great writer. He once tried an agent, but was disappointed when it didn't progress. He's basically given up his dream. I know he could be successful if he would just give this some effort! What's the best way to go about this sort of thing?

     Bloody hard work!!  If he's disappointed that easily, he's probably not cut out for writing.  He'll find he gets rejection after rejection.  The greatest writers in the world have been rejected time and time again.  Unless you're prepared for these sorts of disappointments, then forget writing and try something else.

He may want to test some of his writing among writers from a writing community. I joined one and it's great.

They'll give you their feedback and suggestions, then once he gets help he can seek an agent or someone on the site can help. It's called http://chapteread.com  good luck!!
