What's the best way for me to volunteer my services in Africa or in other less fortunate countries?

I am a nurse from the Philippines and I am seriously considering going to Africa and be a volunteer there. I do not have any other volunteer experience and I'm not really rich. Just wondering if there are organizations I can join that could help me attain my goal. Thanks. And no jokes please.

I would also recommend The Hunger Project (http://www.thp.org/). Over the past 30 years or so, they have developed a really powerful model for empowering people to help themselves, and they work a lot in Africa. The people who started this organization really thought a lot about how to help empower people to be the source of their own empowerment, instead of giving them a "handout", as the saying goes.

I have the greatest respect for the work they are doing!
