Question:

What's the best way of finding someone who assaulted my kid?

My son got beat up at the bus stop, coming home from summer school. I pulled him from the school (our doctor wrote a note keeping him home), but none of the witnesses know who did it as the summer school pulls from several different local schools. Would posting a sign offering a reward work best or should I do something else? (I can afford about $100 for reward money but I might be able to do an appeal to friends to donate for more.)

Should I be talking to a lawyer?

  1. You should have gone to the police and filed a report. If your son was beaten severely and still requires medical treatment then let the  police do their investigation. Don't inflame the situation by advertising a reward. Wait till the culprits are caught then when they are found guilty, sue their parents.

  2. leave it alone , kids get beat up , it's part of growing up.

if you press it , you risk him getting in more trouble, most likely it was a random thing.

see if he would like to take martial art classes , then he could defend himself.

  3. It is rare a kid beats up  another kid for no reason. Your son probably knows who did it, but is not telling you because he would rather just let it go.

  4. Why not report it to the police and let them investigate it.  They can interview the possible witnesses.  They also usually have school annuals to use as "mug shots" for all of the schools in the area and maybe someone can pick out the miscreant.  Even if you pay someone, you may not get the truth and if you do find out who did it, what then?

  5. Report it to the police and let them handle it.
