Question:

What's the best way of listing countries on the Olympics medals table ?

I note that the BBC lists countries by the number of gold medals each has won, thus putting China first, the USA second and GB third, whilst yahoo.com lists by overall medal count, which puts USA at the top. Hands up those who think they only did that so as to put the USA at the top...

  1. Gold medals its just that the yanks don't like losing to China

  2. lets do it the way the IOC do it, which is how many Gold Medals each nation has won.

  3. The IOC lists the countries in order of the number of gold medals awarded. Check their website:

    http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/IN...

The Americans list the countries in order of total medals to make USA look as if it is leading:

    http://www.nbcolympics.com/medals/index....

Typical American propaganda to make USA look good but really, the IOC way of ranking is the most valid.

  4. USA puts the total medals as it looks like they are winning the Olympics but the country with the most GOLD always go to the top of the list

  5. the IOC lists by gold medal, it is only the americans who do it the "favourable" way.

  6. i think it should be done by least medals won that way we (Ireland) would be top woohoo!!!!!!!!! lol

  7. CBC also lists by gold medals as does most of the world. I'm not at all surprised that the US media is trying to inflate its ego rather than admit that the chinese are doing better them.

  8. i prefer to put countries..in the order of total no of medals they have won..

  9. there is no best way, there's your way or your countries way.

Everyone is different and your attempt to deface and make America look bad is typical of people from your country.

  10. I just lost quite a bit of respect for G.B. right now, pathetic.

  11. Who cares, your not in first place, or second place no matter how you cut it crybaby.

  12. Dang, major British petty crybabies eh.

Who cares anyway, are you obsessed with the U.S. or something.

Do it however you want.  I'm actually surprised at the immaturity of the British now.

  13. i think it should be in order of gold medals as the saying is... ''if your not first your last'' to competative people.

and i wouldnt want team GBR to be further down.

GBR ARE WICKED AT THE INDOOR CYCLING!!!!! gold, gold , gold!

  14. Gold is the way, all great sportspeople will tell you, " no-one remembers who comes second ", of course U.S. media will try to make America No. 1 regardless how they do it !

  15. lists by gold medal

    i couldnt agree more

  16. Actually, the USA has historically been a country which has always listed by most medals overall, rather than by gold-silver-bronze. Its not something they've changed just for this Olympics.

As for best? Well it doesn't really matter, although achieving a gold medal is the aim of the games. It should be noted that the IOC itself doesn't produce a medal table - that medal table above is produced by the Chinese Olympic Committee, not the IOC -  the Olympics is not an overall competition.

  17. My hand is up Matt.
