What's the best way to ask people to sponsor you for a charity event?

My husband is shaving his head for the leukaemia foundations Worlds Greatest Shave and requires people to sponsor him. I have also said that if he raises $2000 I too will shave my head. What is the best way to ask friends, colleagues and businesses to sponsor him without offending anyone? We only have a month to raise money. It really is for a great cause and is legitimate! http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/profile.php?id=395753

Thanks in advance!

  1. A guy on a net bd I admin did that last yr. He was pretty successful with it.  He just basicly said Hey I'm shaving my head to raise money for the Leukemia Foundation and I need to get pledges from people.   Can you help, please.   If they got into any conversation with him about it he'd say something like I thank God my kids are healthy and I want to help other kids.   Chemo usually takes away their hair so I'm giving up my hair for them.

Your hubby could add something like believe it or not my wife says if I can raise $2000 she'll shave her head too.

  2. Guilt trips work. And don't put them on the spot too much.

  3. I would probly do like a donation car wash or something like that!

  4. Send a press release to your local newspapers (daily and community) to let them know what you're doing. It's great you have a website already up because that let's them know you're serious.

Also, contact the local television stations so they can FILM your husband shaving his head, and also discuss possible help with your cause because this will drive donations.

The web is a great place for publicity - can you get a link from popular websites in your community?

You only have a month to get him sponsored and probably a limited amount of time...

Corporate sponsors hear these requests often so once you get one media sponsor in place, the rest will follow (or a MAJOR advertiser locally - like one of those car dealers or something who will match your donation?).

    Sky's the limit!!

    Good luck!
