I'm going on my honeymoon next week (In Nueva Vallarta, Mexico), and I'm bringing a lot of spending money (cash). What's the best way to bring it into Mexico? With the chances of losing bags, getting robbed, etc., what's the best way to do this without losing a lot of money?

  1. Do not carry a large amount of cash.  Carry your ATM card and get out pesos as you need them...you will get the best exchange rate and there are ATM machines everywhere.  Call the customer service number on your card and tell them you will be vacationing in Mexico so they will know and not think your card was stolen.  Be very careful with your card.  you could take a small amount of cash to exchange right away when you arrive if you want to...keep your passport and card and cash in a passport holder around your neck under your clothes.

  2. Well "M"  You do not need to carry a large amount of cash.

There are A.T.Ms all over the place.

What do you think a lot of money is ?

Bring some cash and a debit card and a credit card and have all the # s to cancel in the event they are lost

Bringing a lot of cash would mean you would have to carry it with you or leave it in your hotel.

    Either is risky

HOW CAN YOU LOOSE ALL YOUR MONEY WHEN YOU HAVE THE PIN.?

IF you dont want to listen to good advice then take 45,000.00 DOLLARS WITH YOU

    yOU SHOULD LISTEN TO MIKE

mail your self a money order>?? what thef%^&&

  3. I would suggest talking to your bank about doing a wire transfer of money to a bank in mexico. There you could get an ATM and withdraw money as needed. I think the two most popular banks are Bancomer and Banamex. Also, there are Bancomers on this side of the border only in California though. There are a bunch in the L.A area and orange county area, about 3 in Norcal(San Jose, San Francisco, Watsonville)  And don't worry, they are FDIC insured.

  4. One of the best ways is to hide and spread it around so that if you lose one item (wallet, etc.) you won't lose most of it. For example, put some in a money belt, hand-sewn pockets under the garments, some in the suitcase, or other creative containers.

Another important issue is not attracting attention to yourself. If you are going to be carrying around thousands of dollars, don't dress like you are. Blend in. Don't parade around like some rich american. Do that after you put the $ in the hotel safe. With modern safes, only you can open it because you set the password.

  5. You mentioned that you don't want to loose your card soo...

But it is TOO dangereus to carry cash, you can loose it too, police could thing it is ilegal (from narco, for ex.) and you could atract some criminals.

Always use debit or credit cards. It is much safer, either here in México or anywhere else. If you want to take cash, just take it from the ATM's, at the hotels always there is at least one. That is the safest way.

  6. put it on a credit card or debit card. if they supply that.

  7. do you have a debit card, what aout travelers checks

  8. Western Union it to yourself right before you leave. Tons of western Union places to go and get your $$$$
