Question:

What's the best way to clean a really dirty oven?

I don't think my tenants cleaned the oven once in the two years they lived in my unit. There is so much baked on grease! I'm not big on using harsh chemicals or a large amount of elbow grease. Does anyone have any tips they can share to help me?

  1. Since I have never tried this I am not sure how well it actually works but I have seen on TV where they use steam. One of those hand held steamers and then it wipes right off. No harsh chemicals and very little elbow grease.

  2. I was given this advice from a guy who worked for a company who cleaned ranges/cookers/hobs..........Paint on water soluble paint remover, leave for an hour or so, and wash off.

There are no surfaces that will be damaged by powerful solvents in an oven.

  3. Easy Off is as about the mildest thing you can use.As a last resort Ammonia may help.Realize this is a potent chemical and you don't want any kids to have access to it.The fumes help loosen the carbon deposits and grease.Discard the Ammonia the next day and you may have to do this for several days using fresh Ammonia. Ammonia is pretty cheap too.Put a cup of plain Ammonia in a stainless steel pan or bowl leave in a cold oven overnight and it will help..Remember NEVER mix Ammonia and Bleach or any other chemical with Ammonia as it can form a gas that can kill you.I'd keep the tenants deposit for slob penalty

  4. Things You’ll Need:

    Baking soda

    Water

    Vegetable oil-based liquid soap

    Step1

Sprinkle water on the oven bottom.

    Step2

Cover the oven bottom with a thin application of baking soda.

    Step3

    Let it sit overnight.

    Step4

Wipe off the baking soda with a damp sponge.

    Step5

Apply a liquid soap using a scouring pad and then rinse when you've finished scouring.

Put a sheet of aluminum foil on the floor of the oven, underneath, but not touching, the heating element, to keep your oven clean. If a spill does make it past the aluminum foil, clean it immediately to keep it from setting in and becoming too stubborn to remove.

  5. I use Easy Off spray, I think is the best.
