I am a student and just moved into a beautiful old 2-bedroom craftsman house right across the street from school. A friend already lived here, so I thought being roommates would be awesome... Until I found out her old roommate was an absolute slob, and she wasn't much better. Still the house had potential, and I'm getting a great deal on rent (only $300/month!).
The problem is, after a year or so of messy living, the house now has rats (which my cat is helping combat). Cabinets are dark abysses of dirt, grime and rodent droppings. The kitchen, bathroom, and sun room floors are so disgusting, I refuse to walk in them barefoot. My bedroom floor is pretty disgusting too, and apparently the hardwood was painted in here years ago.
Luckily, the hardwood floors throughout the rest of the house are in good condition, and I've already cleaned out most of the moldy and filth-stained bathroom.
I'd just really like to know how to clean out those cabinets and make them usable once again, and how to get my floors sparkling. I've already gotten my roommate to pick up after herself and wash dishes as soon as she's used them, but I've come to realize that the elbow grease will be left to me.
I love this house, and want to enjoy it! The sad thing is, I graduate in December and will likely move out within a few months.
