What's the best way to color my hair light brown from dark brown?

I am African American and Caucasian and I have naturally dark brown hair that tends to turn reddish in the sun. I am interested in a light brown shade, but when I tried to do it myself, it turned orange! What can I do or what color should I buy to achieve the results I'm looking for (light golden brown)?

henna or chamomile, chamomile uses the sun to work it's best. or you could get it done professionally. BEWARE do not use anything like sun in or lemon juice! it  will turn your hair orange!!!!!
