Question:

What's the best way to cook this fish?

I went fishing with a group today. Had lots of fun, and caught a few fish. At the end, the fish was all cleaned up and put in ziploc bags for us to take home. Only problem is, I don't know what kind of fish it is!

The type of fish we caught today that we kept were croakers, spots, and flounders. I don't think it's flounder, so it must be spot or croaker or a mix of the two. There are two pieces, and I want to cook them up for dinner today.

I was thinking of baking them on foil in the oven, but I'm not sure what temperature or what seasonings to use. Does anyone know how best to cook this fish up?

(As a note: I am visually impaired, so any ideas, please describe other than the colour or appearance, because I can't see well enough for that. Thanks!)

  1. Fish n Foil is awesome - only way i cook it because it has flavor

Place fillet on piece of foil

Season with salt pepper garlic powder a pat of butter lemon juice and some zest (lots of flavor in zest), maybe little breadcrumbs if you like

Next i place sliced veggies on top like zucchini and tomato and season them to

    Seal pouch tight

    Place on baking sheet

bake at 400 for 15 minutes

I make rice in the meantime

    best part - no mess!

  2. If the fish you caught is a flat fish, why not poach it in milk and then make a parsley/herb sauce from the milk to cover it when you serve the fish? Serve with lyonnaise potatoes and fresh green vegetables such as peas or beans. You could also serve this with salad and buttered new potatoes too.

  3. I have to agree with shep, there is insufficient detail here.

I have to guess they are a flat fish.

I have to guess they are fillets and not whole fish.

Simmer the fillets on medium heat in milk until they are cooked. Set on a warm plate and reserve the milk. Add 1T of butter to the pan and when it is melted and the same quantity of flour and stir together, for 2-3 minutes cook, still on medium heat, then slowly add the milk stirring untill you get the consistency you wish and it is hot.

Return the fish to the pan to reheat.

Serve out the fish and stir in the juice of a lemon or lime (a spash Malt vinegar if you haven't got the juice or fruit.

    Spoon over the fish.

  4. Put the fish in a lightly greased baking dish..Season the fish with some salt, peper, garlic & dill and put some sliced lemons on top.   Stick it in the oven and bake until cooked through.

  5. If they are white and filleted just batter it and deep fry it, make fish and chips.

  6. just buy some fish seasoning and deep fry it

  7. dip in egg

dip in cornmeal with added s&p

fry up till it flakes on ya

only way I know to cook fresh fish lol
