If you use an agent you will have to pay them fees. Look on rightmove.com and yeah Gumtree is good. It depends if you are after a flat share or not as there are sites for that as well, can't remember the names but something like findaflatmate.com and flatmateclick.co.uk

A few years ago when I was looking to buy, I bought a paper called Hot Property.  It had sales listed by area.  This meant that I could find out which of the areas I could afford to buy in and which were too expensive for me to contemplate.  I then had a look at the areas which interested me and narrowed it down further.  I then got details from local estate agents.  They seem to have a website, so check on there.

Depends on you're budget?...there are lots of adverts on the notice boards found in the front windows of most general stores...and waiting lists are usually shorter?...when you apply to housing associations!...forget local councils?....they work on a points basis and can take most of youre adult life!...if not all of it?...to get anywhere...

gumtree is pretty cool, get the loot paper there are loads of adverts in there for flats. you could try a site like www.flatshare.com if you wanna share.

  estate agents are estate agents and they will s***w you given half the chance, if you have the time i would say try yourself, also if you see what areas you want to live, you can look at the local press and there will be adverts in them for flats.

The gumtree.com website is good. There is lots of advertisements. The only problem is that it doesn’t have many search features or pictures, so a bit time consuming.

Watch out for scams.
