  1. Try Craigslist.com

  2. I lived in NYC for 8 years, and when I was looking for apartments, I looked into newspapers, that's where I found mine.  But now I live in the country, but hopefully I will be going back.

  3. go to www.apartmentguide.com

searchable guide to apartment complexes across the U.S. Includes photos, floorplans, maps, and coupons.

  4. Read the obituaries.

  5. craigslist.com

    rent.com

and I will have a studio for rent too, I am doing the virtual tour and will post on my web site by Monday

    www.KinRealEstate.com

  6. It is important to get a feel for the market.  Both craigslist and apartment search sites like Natefind will help you figure out what you can afford and what to expect for your money.

One thing special about NYC is for many apartments the renter needs to pay a broker fee to rent the apartment.  Make sure you discuss this up front before you agree to look at an apartment with a broker -- you can negotiate!

  7. www.homestore.com

  8. newspaper

  9. The best way I think, it's a bit crude, but a good place is to find is to check in the obituaries.  My friend did it and found one.  You can look in the New York newspapers online.

  10. Look...

  11. One of the best ways is to go to Craigslist New York.  You can find a huge variety of listings there.  I put a link for it below.

Also, if you are going to be a student in New York, contact the Admissions Office or the Student Services/Residential Life Office at your school, and they should be able to provide you with some direction.  Be persistent and don't put up with lame answers from them, though, because a lot of times they just hire summer students who don't give a d**n to work in those offices during summer break.  If necessary, ask to speak with the department director until you get the answers you need!!

  12. look near NYC. or City college.
