What's the best way to get an engineering job with the military or a military contractor in Italy?

I am currently working for a US military contractor in the states and would like to move to Italy for a few years. I see that the US military has several bases (Navy in Naples, Air Force in Aviano, etc.). What is the best way to land an engineering (or related) job in Italy for the military or a defense contractor at one of the bases?

  1. Do you want to work just with US Army or also with the Italian Army (Esercito Italiano)?

I'm working in the construction, now here in your country for another year as PM.

In Italy all the GC or SC that want to work in public sites (90% of the works in Italy), need the NOS a particular qualification, that it request to the companies, of whichever operating field, when the confidence of jobs and/or the execution of supplies in some ARMY fields to participate in sites as barracks, police station, NATO buildings, special jails, offices etc. The qualification interests the Company and not the persons.

But you have to look for these companies and link which has work in a US Base.

You can search on line the public concourse (I mean the BID) of MINISTERO DELLA DIFESA (they are in italian, but I can help you if you need it), on site you can find the winner, the name of the company, etc.

Unfortunately I think US Army has a list of Companies, probably you have to ask for them from here in US.

But browsing and linking you can find something.

Look for also "polygon" of shooting the suppliers about that are very few, so I'm sure the US Army use them.

I hope all is useful, I'm sorry for my English.........and I wish you the best.

My temporary VISA is going to expire next year, so I'll have the same problem ..............I want to find a US GC Company with business in Italy, to come back and work with my new experience, so if you have ideas........let me know.

  2. Good question - good idea. You should find out who the DOD has listed as qualified and official contractors for US military installations in in Italy. You should be able to do this by contacting the individual installation's procurement offices (I think I've got some info on Aviano - see source) or through some home office in the US. You may find that the contractors may even be US holdings based in Italy???

Best of luck to you. Hope this tip will be able to help.

  3. Your best bet is to visit the nearest Civil Service Commission office because the Govt. jobs require you to be a Govt. employee ( Civil Service). There are no military contractors as such in Italy. All civilian contracts for the Govt.are bid on by the contractors, and awarded by contracting officer. In rare occasions a contract will be " sole sourced" that is to say it is given to a contractor without competitive bids.I worked five years for CTF-63 in Naples. It was my job to write work specifications and cost estimates and also to monitor the work. Most of my carrier was doing this, for both the Navy and the Army.If you have a degree in engineering, you have a good shot of going to work for the Govt.By the way,Bella Napoli is the pits. I wish you luck my friend.
