  1. stay home...walk...ride a bike

  2. Do not drive

  3. First off " DON'T PUT WATER IN YOUR TANK!!"

Like mentioned in a earlier answer to your question. "Crazy Guy!!"

Anyway, I have one tip for ya... Run your air conditioner in your car instead of rolling down the windows. " Just by doing that will save you  little money...

" It's an old myth about running your air conditioning in your car wasting gas!!

You waste more gas by rolling your windows down... "Anyone heard of drag" That is what exactly happens, causing your car to work much harder... Much like a parachute. " If you get my meaning.

Also, I know it's hard at times... But try to do all your errands in one trip versus dozens. Another thing to do is remove any excess weight that you may have in the car. "Again think Drag"

Well, there a lot more you can do. The site mentioned below has a good free resource for saving at the pump, but I believe you have to join his mailing list.. Ether way it's a good deal!

  4. Don't drive like a jerk.  There's no need to slam on the gas when the light turns green just so you can get to the next stop light .5 seconds faster than the next person.

  5. Not really being a smart A$$ ...Get a Motorcycle with Saddles

Get a compact car Geo Metro,,Nissan,,Honda

If not then,,,,,, Get a tune up ,,Change the oil,, Check your tires To make sure you have them inflated properly,, Don't carry around extra weight in the car.......

  6. Put water in your gas tank, I swear it works.

  7. There are few thing you can do to save (or maximize) gas MPG. First get a tune-up.

    (1) spark plugs

    (2) spark plug wires

    (3) distributors, coil, rotors (if you have them).

    (4) new air filter

    (5) PCV

    (6) correct tire pressure

    (7) clear the trunk of useless heavy items

    (8) spray clean MAF sensor.

Forget all those "SAVE GAS" scams.  This was on NBC morning TV show.   The difference is as much as 38% (their claim).  There are very simple rules to save gas:

    (1) drive slow - not too much past 55

    (2) accelerate slowly

    (3) don't brake unnecessarily

    (4) use cruise control - whenever it is safe to do so.

Don't coast - it is NOT safe (to coast in Nuetral) and it does NOT save gas.  It only saves gas, if you are planning to slow down (exiting, tolls, traffic).  Coasting then accelerating again is LESS efficient than just cruising.

The above really works. Using those simple rules I was able to drive from Boston to NYC (210.5 miles) on just 5.112 gallon (94 Civic).  That's 41 MPG (94 Civic 187K miles).  Actually I was speeding at 72 MPH so I could do even better at 55.

    WOW !!

    Good Luck...

  9. Join the community in my references if your serious about achieving excellent gas mileage.  The people in the forums are pretty crazy, and some of the methods are only for die hards.  But here are some ideas...

Increasing air pressure in tires to side wall max rather than dealer specifications.

If you have a manual, accelerating with very low RPMs and 1/2-3/4 throttle.

Accelerate as previously stated, then coast, then accelerate again and coast...repeating this process actually yields better gas mileage then driving one constant speed.

Some methods are not for the faint of heart, such as shutting off the engine down hills, and bump starting the engine when you need to accelerate again.

My Mazda 3 is 22mpg city 29mg freeway.  I however, consistently get over 30mpg with mixed driving.  On a 120 mile round trip road trip I achieved 37mpg.
