I am currently going to community college. I have finished two semesters of Chinese, and will be starting Chinese 3 this fall. Are there any other classes I need to take that would better my chances of getting in? Also, any scholarships available for the Chinese major?

  1. Check Assist.org to make sure you have taken all the required general education courses and all the major prerequisites.  Transfer admission is focused on grades and demonstrated interest in your field of study.  Get a job/volunteer/participate in clubs/intern in your field of study and you will be fine.

Transfer admit rate for Chinese major at UCLA in Fall 2008 was 66.67%, so your chances are good.

  2. You should be taking general ed classes too.

  3. Your GPA should be good. Also make sure that the Chinese classes you are taking will transfer over to UCLA if they accept you.  Not all colleges accept all major courses from community colleges.  I hope this helps...
