Question:

What's the best way to get out of a ticket (Michigan)?

I got a ticket tonight for turning left onto a street where left turns aren't allowed. I was unaware of this until the cop pulled me over and told me. I was driving in an unfamiliar area at night. The ticket says "pro left turn."

I'm 18 and have a clean record. I had a speeding ticket (5 over) on my record but I believe that has been removed since it has been over two years since the incident.

What would be the best way to not have these points show up on my record/increase my auto insurance?

  1. no need to "get out" -pay the fine and drive more defensively in the future.

  2. Call the court and see if you can schedule an appearance and that you have a clean record and it was an accident.  They will have you come before a magistrate or judge, you can explain your case and since you have a clean record they will most likely reduce your fine/points.

I am in Michigan and I know the 48th district court has such a procedure, I had my points reduced from 3 to 1 for running a red light.  Look on your ticket there probably is a number for the district court in your area to call.
