Question:

What's the best way to get rid of a mouse?

There's a mnouse that's been under my dresser for a while now. I've tried a live, plastic mouse trap, but he won't go in it. Is there another humane way to get rid of the mouse? Someone said to try sticky paper, but I thought that killed them?

  1. Ask someone you know who has a cat to let you borrow it.

  2. You usually have to place them along skirting boards or were they run, as they run along they will encounter. Try some  dry rice and chocolate at the inner end.

  3. No use in trying to preserve the health of the mouse as well as getting rid of him from your place

I have used a trap similar to this but with a glass long necked bottle with something to grease the end instead of the rolled tube used in the diagram with some bread with vanilla essence in the neck of the bottle and an old rag or towel or similar to allow it to run up to get at the bread. Put a bucket under to catch it with water in it - there is no use in letting it free - it can and probably will come back and bring his/her mates to stay at your place, no time for squeamish thought here

Have a good look at this site, many of the things in this trap can be readily found in your home

PS- If you have a hole somewhere that mice can get in - you can stuff it with some steel wool - the stuff you use to scrub pots and pans - they cannnot chew thru it - a mouse can squeeze thru the smallest of gaps so check it out and stop them entering

  4. Suggest you forget the humane stuff and get rid of the mouse. If you can get him humanely that's fine, I'm an animal lover myself. But he/she is going to destroy things and leave p**p and maybe more babies will come and you could have sicknesses transmitted. Time for assault 101. Move the dressor. Vacumm and clean and spary with disinfectant or Lysol. Close all holes that you can see that the mouse may be using. Spray some disinfectant in those as well. You can also buy one of those pest buzzers that make noise, but I don't have a link handy. I see them in the hardware stores all the time. Put the sticky paper under there if you have to. I've never heard of that but it may work. And don't handle him. You could get bitten and get rabies. Ask at the hardware store what other remedies they may have.

  5. Get a cat.

  6. Sticky paper is HORRIBLE as they are stuck there and you watch them struggle to get loose, and thats how it is caught...and stuck!

No way out....unless you cut off their feet/legs....!

I think snapping their heads off would be more humane than those

stupid glue traps or poision like DeCon that just burns out all

    their stomach/insides.

Like us eating or drinking poision, I think that would be a

very painful death indeed.. and, slow.....like torture

So what to do? Did you place some bait inside the live trap like

peanut butter? To tempt him inside? Okay...all I can suggest is

go to the local health food store and buy peppermint oil as they

really hate the smell of it. I read that they are allergic to it, but

I do not know. Then wipe everything down with it that you can, including washing the floors (or vacuuming) with a little of the oil

added. Also, do not leave any food or even a crumb! around, as a

crumb will sustain him. After that, he might just go away! Mine did!

(I had only one, and now he's been gone for over a year!) I kid U not!

Good Luck and hope this helps!  .
