Question:

What's the best way to get rid of the smell?

I have a retainer that I have to keep in at all times. It's to fix the two upper eye teeth that have grown in above the rest of my teeth. I recently took out my retainer and it smelled really bad. I washed it using a baking soda paste, with just baking soda and water, using a baby tooth brush. That got rid of the smell, but it keeps coming back. I don't want to use an adult toothbrush, with toothpaste, because I know it'll scratch it up and get even worse.

Is there another way to get rid of the smell?

  1. I use a toothbrush i would use on my retainers and they do fine...

but it depends on what kind of retainer you have...

if its the kind with the plastic that goes on the top of your mouth, it'll be fine.

get denture tablets for "orthodontic devices" and soak the retainer in it around once every week.

sometimes if i'm in a rush i take act mouthwash and pour some in a cup and dip the toothbrush in it and wash the retainers that way... its a quick temp fix.

i've recently stopped using the retainer case as well, unless i'm traveling.

my retainers "live" in a solution of mouthwash and water.

i forget the proportions, but fill a cup up with water, and pour some mouthwash in it so that you barely see the color in there...  i think it was 1 pt mouthwash 10 parts water? or 6 water.....

but i stop when the waters kinda blue...

    but barely.

then the acidity can't wear the metal down.

  2. sounds like you did just do it more often
